NEW CERTIFICATIONS RESPOND TO CUSTOMER DEMAND FOR STANDARDIZED INTEGRATION WITH LEADING VOA 5050 INTRALOGISTICS SOFTWARE PROVIDERS.
KITCHENER, ON April 9, 2026-OTTO by Rockwell Automation today announced that its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are now certified with leading VDA 5050-compliant intralogistics software providers, including NAiSE. These certifications give manufacturers more options to coordinate mixed fleets of AMRs and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) through standardized, centralized control systems. OTTO was one of the first AMR vendors to support the VDA 5050 standard and opensourced its connector in 2023.
As manufacturers increasingly deploy mixed fleets, interoperability is essential for safe, efficient operations. VDA 5050 defines a common, open standard for communication between autonomous vehicles and a fleet master controller, allowing manufacturers to manage traffic flow, job orders, status updates, and vehicle behavior from a unified fleet management system.
This VDA 5050 approach works best in facilities with highly standardized operations, predictable autonomous vehicle routes, routine workflows, and shared traffic zones. In these environments, centralized coordination can maximize production efficiency, optimize floor space and resource utilization, and improve operational resiliency. Simulation results indicate that when AGVs and AMRs collaborate within a shared transport system, throughput can increase by up to 51% compared to AGV-only operations.
“Our collaboration with OTTO marks an important step in advancing mixed-fleet interoperability. By working closely with OTTO, we are enabling manufacturers to more easily integrate diverse autonomous systems and build flexible, scalable operations.”
Raphael Kusumoto, CTO, NAiSE
In addition to VOA 5050-based integrations, OTTO works with Rockwell Automation’s orchestration software to provide centralized visibility across systems and supports custom interoperability through third-party middleware solutions. This approach is recommended for facilities with dynamic environments, operations that require more flexibility, or systems that can best achieve specific operational goals with custom integrations. This flexibility enables manufacturers to select the interoperability strategy that best fits their operational requirements.
